Basketball Teams to Support Brain Cancer Patients in A Night of Hope on Feb. 10

SALEM, Ore. -- It will be A Night of Hope on Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Bearcats aid in the fight against brain cancer as the Willamette University basketball teams host the University of Puget sound in a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Cone Field House. The evening is being held in cooperation with Kim's Hope, which was founded in memory of Kim Veenhuis, the mother of former Willamette women's basketball player Amanda Carpenter.

On Saturday evening, there will opportunities to donate to Kim's Hope. In adidition there will be fun activities for fans to along with lots of exciting NWC basketball.

The Willamette women's basketball team, 14-8 overall and 11-2 in the NWC, will take on Puget Sound, 15-6 and 9-3 NWC, at 4 p.m. PST. The men's game for the Bearcats, 12-9 on the season and 7-6 in the NWC, against the Loggers, 11-10 overall and 7-5 NWC, is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Kim's Hope works to increase awareness of glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. Kim Veenhuis battled her own diagnosis of glioblastoma from December of 2019 through August 2021. In honor of her, Kim's Hope is dedicated to providing financial aid to glioblastoma patients and their families to ensure they have the ability to access the medications, care, and treatment they need. Kim's Hope is also proud to offer an annual scholarship for a student pursuing higher education that has been affected by glioblastoma in their family.

At the first Night of Hope on Jan. 21, 2022, Amanda Carpenter scored a career-high 31 points in her final home game against Linfield. The Bearcats won the women's game 70-50. During the second annual Night of Hope on Jan. 31, 2023, Willamette defeated Linfield 82-64.
