Ed Cardinal, a center on the Willamette men’s basketball team, led the Northwest Conference in scoring in 1927-28, 1928-29, and 1929-30. He scored 19 points against the University of Oregon and 16 points versus Gonzaga in 1928, and scored 18 and 22 points in games against Pacific. He was chosen for the All-Northwest Conference Team in 1928. In baseball, he played catcher and earned a .431 batting average during the 1929 season. Cardinal played football in 1929 and 1930, and received All-NWC honors both years. He was a team leader on the football, basketball and baseball teams that all went undefeated in conference play in 1930.
