Andrew Hermann competed in track and field as a race walker at Willamette from 1990 through 1993. He earned NAIA All-America honors in 1990 and 1993. In 1990, he placed 8th at the NAIA Championships in the 10-kilometer race walk in 48:29.7, second all-time at Willamette. In 1993, he placed 5th at the NAIA Championships in the 5-kilometer race walk in 22:12.9. He placed second in the NCIC in the 5-kilometer run during the 1993 track and field season at 15:32.73. Hermann set the U.S. record in the 25-kilometer race walk on his way to a berth in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. He placed 31st in the Olympics in the 50-kilometer race walk with a time of 4 hours, 7 minutes and 18 seconds. In 1997, he won the U.S. 50-kilometer race walking title. In cross country at Willamette, he placed 14th in NAIA District 2 in 1992.
