Dexter Maust was a key player on the Willamette football team all four years as a defensive back. He was named All-Northwest Conference in 1960 after competing on Willamette's undefeated team that went 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NWC. He intercepted three passes for the Bearcats in 1962. In 1959, he was selected to the All-Beta Small College Football Team for members of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Also a member of the track and field team, he ranks fifth all-time for the Bearcats in the 880-yard run with a time of 1:54.7. He competed at the NAIA National Championships in the 880-yard run in 1962 and 1963. After graduating, Maust organized the first Willamette men's cross country team in 1963 and was the team's volunteer coach as the Bearcats won the NWC Cross Country Championship that first season.
