SA.LEM, ORE. -- Willamette University baseball player Jack McGee (Sr., Utility, Hillsborough, CA/St. Ignatius HS) has been named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts as the Bearcats swept a series against Pacific University on April 25-26. McGee, a versatile athlete who saw action as a right fielder, designated hitter and pitcher during the week, hit .529 on offense to help Willamette go 4-0 against the Boxers.
McGee earned nine hits in 17 at bats, while scoring six runs and recording five RBIs. Willamette swept Pacific in a doubleheader, 11-10 in 10 innings and 8-1, on Saturday, April 25, and finished the series by defeating the Boxers on Sunday, April 26, 12-11 and 16-9.
McGee recorded at least two hits and at least one run in all four games. He hit a double in the first game of the series and belted a three-run homer in the second game. In the third game, he was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and recorded the game-winning hit with a single in the seventh inning. The single drove in Doug Bloom (So., SS, Salem, OR/South Salem HS) with the winning run.
Willamette concluded its season with a 21-17 overall record, including 18-13 (4th place) in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats went 16-6 in their last 22 games. Willamette achieved a .313 team batting average, hit 53 home runs and scored 7.39 runs per game.
McGee finished second on the Willamette roster with a .413 batting average (50 of 121), placing him sixth all-time in Bearcat baseball history. He led the team with 38 runs (tied for eighth all-time) and was first with 14 doubles (tied for seventh all-time). He hit five home runs during the season.
He was the winning pitcher for WU in the third game against Pacific. For the season, he was 3-0 with four saves and a 3.05 ERA. He ended his career tied for third at Willamette with eight saves overall.
Jack McGee hit .529 in four games against Pacific to finish the season with a .413 batting average.
