SALEM, ORE. -- It was a stellar freshman season for Willamette University designated hitter Ty Wyatt (Keizer, OR/McNary HS) and now, he can add another honor to his name.

Wyatt has been chosen Third Team All-West Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). This recognition comes in a summer in which he has already been named First Team All-Northwest Conference, and Second Team All-West Region by DIII Baseball.com.

Wyatt is the first Bearcat to earn All-West Region honors from the ABCA since Mitch Rowan was named Second Team as a senior in 2012.

A total of 16 athletes from NCAA Division III were named First Team All-West Region. 17 players were chosen for the Second Team, while 18 players were selected on the Third Team.

Wyatt emerged onto the scene in a big way in 2014. He led the Bearcat offense with a .359 batting average and .531 slugging percentage. He also topped the team's statistical charts in on base percentage (.413), hits (46) and runs batted in (37).

Primarily batting fourth in Willamette's batting order, Wyatt crushed four homers and added 10 doubles, ranking second on the team in both categories.

In conference action, Wyatt led the NWC with a .398 batting average. He also ranked first in conference play with 37 hits and 32 RBIs.

Wyatt's bat got especially hot towards the end of the season. He had 14 multi-hit games throughout the final 24 contests, and got at least one hit in 20 of the final 24 games. During that stretch, Wyatt hit .402 with 33 RBIs.

Five of those RBIs came against Lewis & Clark College on March 23. Wyatt had a career day, going 2-4 with a double and five runs batted in during the team's 18-3 victory.

Over the course of the season, Wyatt's offensive production helped guide Willamette to a 22-17 overall record. The team's 14-10 mark in NWC play was good enough to finish in fourth. The Bearcats also achieved their highest winning percentage since going 21-13 in 2003.
