Scanlon Blasts 3 Home Runs to Earn Spot on D3baseball.com Team of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Justin Scanlon (Jr, 2B, San Jose, CA/Leigh HS/West Valley College) of Willamette University has been chosen for the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after his efforts helped the Bearcats sweep a three-game Northwest Conference series at George Fox University on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14. Willamette opened the series with an 8-5 win on Saturday and then completed the sweep with 10-4 and 9-1 victories on Sunday. The Bearcats advanced their record to 16-13 overall, including 132-8 in the NWC.

Scanlon hit .563 in the three games, going 9 of 15 at the plate, including one home run in each game. During the series, he scored five five and earned 10 RBIs. He belted five extra-base hits, with a double, a double and the three homers for a 1.313 slugging percentage. On defense, he recorded a total 10 putouts and 11 assists with no errors.

He was consistent throughout the weekend, recording at least two hits, two runs and two RBIs in all three games. He was 3 for 5 in the first game, 2 for 6 in the second game, and 4 for 5 in the final game. During Sunday's second game, he hit for three-fourths of the cycle with a single, a triple and a home run.

Scanlon is batting .369 for the season. He leads the Bearcats with 30 RBIs and two triples, and is tied for first with 12 doubles. He is second in batting average, slugging percentage (.670), hits (38) and runs (26). He is tied for second with five homers. He has contributed 37 putouts and 46 assists on defense.

The Bearcats will finish the NWC regular season schedule by hosting Pacific Lutheran University at John Lewis Field on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. The series will begin with one game on Friday at 3 p.m. (PDT). On Saturday, the Bearcats and the Lutes will complete the series with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
