Bearcats Lose to Azusa Pacific 31-13

AZUSA CA Missed opportunities spelled defeat for the Willamette University football team as the Bearcats fell to 0-3 on the season with a 31-13 loss to Azusa Pacific, the No. 20 ranked team in the NAIA.

The Bearcats had four turnovers, including one of the opening drive of the game when the Bearcats marched inside the APU 20, only to lose the ball to an interception. APU drove the ball downfield and scored its first touchdown.

Azusa racked up 21 first half points, and added another ten in the third quarter before the Bearcats posted a pair of touchdowns late in the game.

Quentin Brock scored both Bearcat touchdowns on runs of three yards and one yard. He led the Bearcat is rushing with 117 yards on 23 carries. Ryan Hernandez added 57 yards rushing as the Bearcats rolled up more yards in total offense (387-350) than APU.

Willamette rushed for 267 yards to 183 for Azusa, but the turnovers negated several long drives.

Tim Alton led the Bearcat defense with nine tackles. Tyler Gill and Phillip Sweet each had eight.
