Randall Selected as Northwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior cornerback Wesley Randall (Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral Prep HS) was named the Northwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his play in the Bearcats 34-26 loss to the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Oct. 14 at McCulloch Stadium. Randall previously earned honorable mention NWC Special Teams Player of the Week recognition following his efforts against Linfield College on Sept. 30.

Againt the Loggers on Saturday, Randall returned five kickoffs for 140 yards (28 yards per return) and also blocked an extra point. Randalls last kickoff return of 56 yards came late in the fourth quarter. It led to a Willamette touchdown with 40 seconds remaining that pulled WU to within 34-26. The Bearcats were unable to recover the ensuing onside kick, and UPS escaped with the victory.

The blocked extra point was Randalls third blocked kick of the season. He also blocked punts against Menlo College and Linfield earlier this year. Randall has blocked eight kicks in his career at Willamette.

In addition to his special teams statistics, Randall also recorded four tackles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble against the Loggers. He has provided the Bearcats with 15 total tackles (12 unassisted) and two interceptions this season.

Randall and the Bearcats have a bye this Saturday, then return to action on Oct. 28, when they travel to Spokane, Wash. to face 11th-ranked Whitworth College in a Northwest Conference game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
