Horne Receives NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week Award

SALEM, ORE. -- Deon Horne (Jr., TB, Issaquah, WA/Liberty HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts on Saturday, Oct. 25. Horne helped the Bearcats win at Linfield College, 52-28, to improve to 8-0 on the season, 4-0 in the NWC.

Horne carried the ball 16 times for 122 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 30 yards and 11 yards in the first quarter, helping WU build a 28-7 lead. He added a 50-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give Willamette a 45-28 advantage with 6:12 left.

Willamette's offense rushed for 268 yards and gained 428 total yards against the Wildcats. Linfield's defense entered the game allowing only 87.4 rushing yards and 223.8 total yards per game.

For the season, Horne is Willamette's leading rusher with 604 yards and eight touchdowns on 85 carries. He has averaged 7.1 yards per attempt.

The Bearcats, ranked #11 in the new D3Football.com Top 25, have an open date this weekend, then return to action with a home game against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Nov. 1. Game time at McCulloch Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
