SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior tailback Jose Green (Downey, CA/Warren HS) has been named Northwest Conference Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in Willamette's 42-13 victory over NWC rival Whitworth University on Oct. 3. Green is the Bearcats' primary kickoff returner.

On Saturday, Green received the kickoff to start the second half and returned it 38 yards to the Willamette 45-yard line. The Bearcats scored eight plays later to take a 28-0 lead over the Pirates.

Willamette teammate Terrell Malley (Fr., FL, Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) returned a kickoff 32 yards during the game, as the Bearcats averaged 35 yards on two regular kickoff returns. Whitworth also had one on-side kick, which Tony Krikorian (Sr., FL, Costa Mesa, CA/Costa Mesa HS) recovered for Willamette.

Last year, Green scored on a 46-yard punt return and a 75-yard kickoff return. He averaged 22.1 yards per kickoff return and 9.4 yards per punt return during the season.

The Bearcats are now 4-1 on the season (1-0 in the NWC) and are ranked #17 in this week's D3Football.com Top 25. Willamette will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Lewis & Clark College. Game time in Portland, Ore., is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
