Schoettgen Chosen NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior wide receiver Scott Schoettgen (Columbia, CA/Sonora HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Nov. 7. Schoettgen hauled in a career-high nine passes against the Loggers for 135 yards. Willamette defeated Puget Sound, 50-6.

Schoettgen scored four touchdowns to tie the Willamette record for touchdown catches in a game. The record was already held by Gib Gilmore (opponent N/A, 1967), Darren Holsey (vs. Puget Sound on Sept. 23, 1989) and Justin Pate (vs. Linfield on Nov. 6, 1993).

The touchdowns by Schoettgen were achieved on a 3-yard catch in the first quarter, two 6-yard catches in the second quarter and a 34-yard reception in the third quarter. He caught two touchdowns each from quarterbacks Brian Widing (Fr., Oregon City, OR/Canby Union HS) and Kevin Ramay (Fr., Simi Valley, CA/Grace Brethren HS).

With the victory, Willamette improved to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in the NWC. The Bearcats are ranked #20 in the AFCA Coaches Poll and are #22 in the D3Football.com Top 25.

For the season, Schoettgen leads the Bearcats with 41 catches for 724 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has caught 20 touchdown passes during his career.

The Willamette record for career touchdown catches is 29, set by Pate from 1990-93. Pate also holds the WU single season record with 18 touchdown receptions in 1993.
