SALEM, ORE. -- Season tickets for the 2011 Willamette University football season are on sale now. The Bearcats will play an exciting 7-game home schedule that includes Willamette's annual match-up with arch rival Linfield College on Oct. 1.
SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- Former Willamette University football player Scott Schoettgen ('11) has been signed by the San Jose Sabercats in the Arena Football League. The Sabercats announced his signing on May 27.
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University football team played a very competitive schedule in 2010 that featured several highly-regarded NCAA Division III teams from throughout the country. Now the Bearcats have taken their schedule to another level, as Willamette will play NCAA Division I opponent Portland State University, which can offer 63 scholarships and competes in the Football Championship Subdivision.
SALEM, ORE. -- Former Willamette University football player Brandon Bennett '07, an offensive tackle from San Marcos, Calif. (La Costa Canyon HS), has been named to the NCAA Division III All-Decade Fourth Team by D3football.com. The All-Decade Team includes players who completed their eligibility between 2000 and 2009 or played at least three seasons during that time span.
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University football team played one of the nation�??s most challenging schedules in 2010, as the Bearcats took on five nationally-ranked teams during the 10-game regular season. The schedule also was challenging due to six road games with just four games at McCulloch Stadium.
TOLUCA, MEXICO -- Willamette University senior wide receiver Scott Schoettgen (Columbia, CA/Sonora HS) caught two touchdown passes to help Team Stars & Stripes defeat the CONADEIP All-Stars, 48-7, in the Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) at La Congoladora Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 18. Team Stars & Stripes, an NCAA Division III All-Star team, achieved a 20-0 lead in the first half, then added 21 points in the third quarter on its way to the victory.
SALEM, ORE. -- Three Willamette University football players have been selected to play for the NCAA Division III All-Star team that will take on the CONADEIP All-Stars from Mexico in the 2010 Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Saturday, Dec. 18 in Toluca, Mexico. The Willamette players are senior inside linebacker Ralph Pineda (Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral HS/San Jose State Univ.), senior defensive end Walter Robinson II (Altadena, CA/Cathedral HS) and senior wide receiver Scott Schoettgen (Columbia, CA/Sonora HS).
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior inside linebacker Ralph Pineda (Los Angeles, CA/Cathedral HS/San Jose State Univ.) has been named Second Team All-West Region for the 2010 season by D3football.com. Pineda was Willamette's leading tackler this past season with 84 total tackles on 34 solo stops and 50 assists.
SALEM, ORE. -- Seven Willamette University football players have been selected First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2010 season in voting by the NWC head coaches. Five players from Willamette's defense earned First Team honors, while two offensive players garnered First Team recognition. Willamette finished the season with a 7-3 overall record, including 4-2 (3rd place) in the NWC.
PUYALLUP, WASH. -- Pacific Lutheran University took an early 14-0 lead, but needed a 13-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Rasmussen to Tyler Bowen with 1:10 remaining in the game to defeat Willamette University, 24-21, at Sparks Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Bearcats had a chance to tie the game with 14 seconds left, but a 37-yard field goal hit the crossbar and bounced out.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman place-kicker Kyle Derby (Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Bearcats defeated the Pioneers, 65-24, by pulling away from a 21-21 halftime tie.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University football players Scott Schoettgen (Sr., WR, Columbia, CA/Sonora HS), Luis Guerra (Sr., OT/OG, El Cajon, CA/Steele Canyon HS) and Dennis Plzak (Sr., OG, Gilbert, AZ/Highland HS) have been named First Team ESPN College Division Academic All-District VIII in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The College Division features players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.

The Bearcats pulled away from a 21-21 halftime tie.
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Willamette University gained 407 total yards, including 310 yards on the ground, as the Bearcats moved past Whitworth University, 28-12, in wet conditions at the Pine Bowl in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday, Oct. 30. Terrell Malley (So., TB, Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) led the Willamette rushing attack with 17 carries for 103 yards and one touchdown.

The Bearcats defeated the Oaks, 32-15, to improve to 5-2 on the season.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior wide receiver Scott Schoettgen (Sr., WR, Columbia, CA/Sonora HS) scored three touchdowns on catches of 13, 50 and 48 yards -- all in the first half -- helping the Bearcats defeat Menlo College, 32-15, on Saturday, Oct. 23 in driving rain at McCulloch Stadium. Willamette defeated the Loggers, 52-21, to improve to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the NWC.
SALEM, ORE. -- Scott Schoettgen (Sr., WR, Columbia, CA/Sonora HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for games played on Saturday, Oct. 16. Schoettgen helped the Willamette offense amass 494 total yards in a 52-21 victory over the University of Puget Sound.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University led the University of Puget Sound by just a 17-14 margin at halftime, but the Bearcats exploded for 35 points in the second half to defeat the Loggers, 52-21, at McCulloch Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 16. WU improved to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Northwest Conference. UPS fell to 1-5 overall, 0-3 in the NWC.
FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Willamette University piled up 579 yards of total offense, as the Bearcats rolled to a 69-7 victory over Pacific University on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Bearcats built a 42-0 lead in the first half. The Bearcats improved to 3-2 on the season, including 1-1 in the Northwest Conference. Pacific fell to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.
McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to expand a 21-7 halftime lead, as the Wildcats defeated Willamette University, 35-7, in a battle of nationally-ranked teams at Maxwell Field. It was the Northwest Conference opener for both squads.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University moved up three spots to #14
in this week's NCAA Division III Coaches' Poll released by the
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The Bearcats were
listed at #17 a week ago, but advanced three places despite having
an open date on Sept. 18.
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University remains #15 in the D3football.com Top 25 poll this week after having an open date on Saturday, Sept. 25. SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University football team, in an effort to help keep its student-athletes strong, flexible and fit, recently participated in a sports yoga session. About 50 members of the team attended the event at Cone Field House on Monday, Sept. 20. Sports yoga provided a quality addition to the team�??s traditional training regimens of weight and cardio workouts.
