SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Menlo College (Calif.) have decided to cancel the football game between the two teams originally scheduled for Sept. 29 at McCulloch Stadium.

The game would have paired the Bearcats against former head coach Mark Speckman, who took the head coaching position at Menlo earlier this year.

Removing the match-up with Menlo reduces Willamette's schedule to nine games for 2012, but the Bearcats hope to pick up a 10th game to fill the empty date.

Willamette is set to open the season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

Flanker Jake Turner is one of several talented offensive players returning for the Bearcats in 2012.
