Earns 14 Tackles, Intercepts Pass in Win over Lewis & Clark
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University football player Jack Nelson (Jr., ILB, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) as been selected for the D3football.com Team of the Week after leading the Bearcats' defensein Willamette's 56-30 victory over Lewis & Clark Collegein the annual Wagon Wheel game on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Nelson registered 14 tackles, including nine solo stops, as well as a leaping interception in the third quarter. He achieved 0.5 tackles for losses, including 0.5 quarterback sacks for four yards.
Led by Nelson, the Willamette defense harried Lewis & Clark quarterback Keith Welch all day, achieving three interceptions and limiting the Pioneers to 2.9 yards per running play.
Willamette improved to 5-0 on the season, including 2-0 in the Northwest Conference, and advanced to #21 in D3football.com's national rankings.
For the season, Nelson leads Willamette with 36 solo tackles, 29 assists and 65 total tackles. He has earned 1.5 tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble.
Willamette will host NWC rival Pacific Lutheran University, ranked #17 by D3football.com, on Saturday, Oct. 26 at McCulloch Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. (PDT).
