Jones Selected as NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week

Rushes for 166 yards and Three Touchdowns in Victory over Linfield

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior running back Dylan Jones (Sr., RB, Santa Maria, CA/Ernest Righetti HS) has been named Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in Willamette's 31-28 win over #5-ranked Linfield College on Nov. 1. It is the second time Jones has received the award this season.

Against Linfield, Jones carried the ball 35 times for 166 yards. He scored three touchdowns, including school record 98-yard run that gave WU a 31-14 lead with 12:01 left in the game. He also scored on runs of 1 yard and 5 yards.

The record-breaking run surpassed the previous Willamette record of 90 yards, set by Andy Miguel versus Linfield on Nov. 11, 2000 and by Justin Peterson against Southern Oregon University on Oct. 6, 2001.

Jones has now rushed for a total of 1,201 yards in seven games this season. He ranks first in NCAA Division III with 172.9 rushing yards per game. He has scored 15 rushing touchdowns and is sixth in the nation in overall scoring with 12.9 points per game.

In his career, Jones has rushed for 2,468 yards and has scored 31 rushing touchdowns. Including two touchdowns on pass receptions as a sophomore, he has scored 198 points in his career.

He previously earned NWC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors this season after rushing for a school record 350 yards against Whitworth University on Oct. 11. He carried the ball 30 times and score three touchdowns against the Pirates on runs of 67, 75 and 4 yards. Six of his carries gained 10 or more yards.

Willamette is now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats will play Pacific University on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Boxers are 5-2 overall and lead the NWC with a 5-0 record. Kickoff in Forest Grove, Ore., is set for 1 p.m. (PST).
