Jones Selected as NWC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Tight end and wide receiver Austin Jones (Jr., Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS) of Willamette University has been named the Northwest Conference Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his contributions to the Bearcats in a 49-14 win over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Oct. 31

Jones tied a Willamette record with four touchdown catches. He scored on receptions of 12, 34 and 4 yards in the second quarter, and then added a 27-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. Overall, he caught six passes for 95 yards.

The three touchdowns by Jones in the second quarter helped WU score 28 points in the period for a 28-0 halftime lead. Willamette took a 42-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

For the season, Jones is the Bearcats' top receiver with 24 catches for 354 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging 14.8 yards per reception.

The Bearcats, now 2-5 on the season and 2-3 in the NWC, will return to action on Saturday, Nov against NWC rival Whitworth University. Game time at McCulloch Stadium is set for 1 p.m. (PST).
