Willamette's Lewis is Chosen for D3football.com Team of the Week at Linebacker

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University inside linebacker Jackson Lewis (Jr., Yakima, WA/A.C. Davis HS) has been selected for the D3football.com Team of the Week as a result of his outstanding performance against California Lutheran University on Saturday, Sept. 16. Lewis led the Bearcats with 14 total tackles against the Kingsmen.

Lewis recorded nine solo tackles and five assisted tackles during the game. He earned 2.0 quarterback sacks for 13 yards in losses and had 3.0 tackles for loss overall. He also recovered a fumble on a dropped punt to set up the Bearcats' first touchdown three plays later. He was a leader on Willamette's rushing defense, which limited California Lutheran to 2.6 yards per carry (38 rushes, 99 yards).

For the season, Lewis ranks first on the defensive chart with 22 total tackles. He also leads Willamette with 11 unassisted tackles, 11 assists, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

"Jackson is a very good player and he had an outstanding performance on Saturday," Willamette Head Coach Glen Fowles said. "This recognition was earned through his preparation. Our coaching staff and his teammates couldn't be happier for him."

Willamette lost to California Lutheran, 28-13. The Bearcats have an open date this weekend and will return to action at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT). It will be the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.
