SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/U. of Redlands) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in two wins by the Bearcats this past weekend. Mitchell averaged 16.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 65.0% from the field (13 of 20). He also blocked a total of six shots, recorded three steals and earned two assists during the week.

WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Willamette University rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final eight minutes to force overtime, but Whitman College battled back in the extra session to defeat the Bearcats, 88-84, at the Sherwood Center on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Missionaries improved to 8-13 overall, 4-8 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette fell to 9-10 overall, 5-7 in the NWC.
SPOKANE, WASH. -- Senior post Kyler McClary (Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS) of Willamette University scored 23 points to pass the 1,000-point mark in his career, but Whitworth University ended the game with a 16-3 run, as the Pirates downed the Bearcats, 77-65, in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Feb. 6. SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior wing Corey Costantino (Ashland, OR/Ashland HS) has been named First Team ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District VIII in men's basketball for the second year in a row. The Academic All-District Team was selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Currently tied for fourth place (and the final tournament spot) in the NWC standings, the Willamette University menâ??s basketball team heads to Spokane, Wash., and Walla Walla, Wash., this weekend on its annual road swing through the state. Head Coach Gordie James led the Bearcats to a 67-53 victory over Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 30 in Salem, Ore. The â??Cats evened their NWC mark at 5-5 (9-8 overall) and moved into a tie with Linfield College for fourth place.

Willamette moved to 9-8 on the season, 5-5 in the Northwest Conference. Pacific Lutheran fell to 8-10 overall, 2-7 in the NWC.

TACOMA, WASH. -- The University of Puget Sound went on a 16-2 run in the first 3:41 of the second half, as the Loggers pulled away from Willamette University for a 100-62 Northwest Conference victory on Saturday, Jan. 24. Puget Sound, ranked 11th by D3Hoops.com, improved to 15-2 on the season, 8-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 8-7 overall, 4-4 in the NWC.

George Fox won its second game in a row to improve to 6-10 overall, 2-5 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 8-6, including 4-3 in the NWC.
Bearcats Earn Split on Road; One Weekend Remains in First Conference Round Robin:
The Willamette Universityâ??s Bearcats overcame the Lewis and Clark College Pioneers over a three-day stretch, in a game extended because of a power outage, rallying in the second half on Monday, Jan. 19 for a 75-73 victory in Portland, Ore. The win pulled the Bearcats into a tie for second place in the NWC at 8-5 overall, 4-2 in the conference.
PORTLAND, ORE. -- When Willamette University and Lewis & Clark College began playing on Saturday, Jan. 17, the Bearcats opened the game with an 18-6 run. It took two extra days due to a power outage at halftime, but Willamette also ended the contest on a roll, outscoring L&C 25-16 in the final 11:01 to take a 75-73 victory at the Pamplin Sports Center.
PORTLAND, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's basketball game at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Jan. 17 was suspended at halftime due to a power outage. Lewis & Clark held a 35-32 lead at the intermission. Electrical power went out during halftime and was not expected to be restored until very late Saturday night.
FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Pacific University shot 61.9% from the field in the second half (13 of 21), as the Boxers defeated Willamette University, 70-62, on Friday, Jan. 16 at the Pacific Athletic Center. Pacific upped its record to 7-6 overall, 2-3 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette went to 7-5 on the season, 3-2 in the NWC.
Bearcats Split Pair at Home, Hit the Road for Two This Weekend:
The Willamette University menâ??s basketball team overcame an agonizing one-point loss to the Whitworth University Pirates, 69-68 on Friday, Jan. 9, to rebound with an 84-70 Northwest Conference win over Whitman College on Saturday, Jan. 10. Both games were played at Cone Field House.

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Three Willamette University players combined to go five of six at the free throw line in the final minute, leading the Bearcats to a 61-58 road victory over Linfield College on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The Bearcats improved to 6-3, while winning their sixth consecutive game. WU also upped its Northwest Conference record 2-0, with both wins on the road.
