Willamette Men Finish Second at Salem Collegiate Cup; Second Day is Canceled

Plofker and Simonson Tie for Fourth Place

SALEM, ORE. -- Wet ground due to rain and snow overnight resulted in the cancellation of the second round of the Salem Collegiate Cup, set for Tuesday, March 13 at Illahe Hills Country Club. Results from the first round, held at Creekside Golf Club on Monday, March 12, are now the final results. Corban won the men's team title, while Willamette University finished second and Pacific University was third.

Willamette University golfers Jacob Simonson (So., Fairview, OR/Reynolds HS) and Cody Plofker (Fr., Montclair, NJ/Montclair HS) each shot an 80 at Creekside to earn part of a three-way tie for fourth place.

Corban achieved a team score of 314 to win by 24 strokes. Willamette recorded a score of 338, while Pacific carded a 369.

Chris Dudley of Corban won the individual title with a 2-over-par 74. The Warriors claimed the top three scores, with Joey Duwe taking second place with a 77 and Jared Lambert finishing third at 79.

The three-way tie for fourth at 80 included Simonson and Plofker of Willamette as well as Nolan Tippy from Pacific. Michael May from Corban was seventh at 84 and Roger Hults of Pacific was eighth with an 85.

Also contributing to Willamette's team score were Ryan Kukula (Fr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) and Kyle Derby (So., Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS). Kukula carded an 86 and Derby shot a 92. Kyle Flowers (So., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of WU, who competed as an individual, achieved an 87. Kukula ranked ninth and Flowers was 10th in the medalist race.

Eight golfers participated for Willamette in the overall field of 18. Five of WU's golfers were designated as part of the official "team" with three golfers listed only in the individual standings.

Up next for the Bearcats is the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Wildhorse Golf Course in Pendleton, Ore., on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
