Willamette Wins Pacific Fall Invitational in Men's Golf

Kukula Finishes Second with 36-Hole Score of 144

ALOHA, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's golf team won the Pacific Fall Invitational at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club with a two-day score of 599, finishing 12 strokes in front of Linfield College, which was tied with the Bearcats at 295 at the end of the first day. Willamette shot 304 in the second round on Sunday, Sept. 22, while Linfield shot 316 to finish at 611.

Jared Lambert from Corban University won medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 2-under par 142. Lambert shot a 68 in the first round to take the lead, and then added a 74 in the second round. Ryan Kukula (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) of Willamette took second place at even-par 144 (70-74). Dalton Durrell of the Oregon Institute of Technology finished third at 145 (73-72).

Kukula began the day tied for second two strokes behind Lambert. He matched Lambert at 74 during the second round, as they tied for the third best round of the day. Durrell recorded the top round on Sunday with his 72, while Willamette freshman Clark Wilson (Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) shot a 73.

Wilson tied for fourth place overall at 150 (77-73). Adam Bean from the University of Puget Sound also tied for fourth after shooting 72-78. Jacob Armelino (Fr., Redding, CA/University Prep) of Willamette tied for sixth at 151 (73-78), matching the score earned by Joshua Mau of Pacific University, who shot 76-75.

Completing Willamette's scorecard for the weekend were Peter Mitzel (Fr., Red Bluff, CA/Red Bluff HS) and Stephan Bartz (So., San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS). Mitzel shot 75-79 to tie two other golfers for 11th place at 154. Bartz concluded the tournament at 162 (83-79).

Willamette and Linfield were followed in the team standings by Puget Sound in third place at 616 (297-319). UPS held off Oregon Institute of Technology by one stroke. Oregon Tech finished fourth at 617 (304-313). Corban was fifth at 619 (307-312), while Pacific (310-338) and Lewis & Clark College (317-331) tied for sixth at 648. Linfield's second team was eighth at 659 (323-336), with Trinity Lutheran College in ninth at 667 (339-328) and George Fox University in 10th at 679 (331-348).

The Bearcats will return to The Reserve next weekend for the Culturame Men's Classic hosted by George Fox University. The first round is slated for Saturday, Sept. 28, with the second round set for Sunday, Sept. 29.
