SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University's Trent Jones (So., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) has been named the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Oregon Tech Invitational on Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Jones tied for sixth place in the individual standings after improving each round for an overall score of 223 in the 54-hole event. He shot a 78 over the first 18 holes, and then carded a 74 in the second round to complete the first day of action. On the second day, he registered a third-round score of 71. Only three competitors in the field of 71 golfers shot a lower score in the third round.

For the tournament, Jones was Willamette's top finisher, as the Bearcats took on golfers primarily from NAIA college and universities. The Bearcats compete in NCAA Division III.

Willamette placed fifth in the team standings with an overall score of 915 (315-299-301). It was the team's first tournament of the 2016-17 season.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, Sept 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Pacific Invitational. The tournament will be held at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Oregon.

Jones took first place at two tournaments as a freshman last season. His first win was at the Pacific Fall Invitational on Sept. 19-20, 2015 at Quail Valley.
