Win at NWC Fall Classic Earns Jones Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM Ore. -- After winning the individual championship at the Northwest Conference Fall Class, Trent Jones (So., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) from Willamette University has been chosen as the NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. Jones won the tournament title on the first playoff hole at the Emerald Valley Golf Club and Resort, which hosted the NWC Fall Classic on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9.

Jones and Kyle Drugge of Pacific Lutheran University each carded a 36-hole score of 146. Jones shot back-to-back rounds of 73, while Drugge shot a 70 in the first round and a 76 in the second round.

Hole #1 served as the first hole for the championship tie-breaker. Jones registered a par, while Drugge finished with a bogey.

Jones helped the Bearcats take second place in the team standings at the NWC Fall Classic with a score of 605 (302-300). The Bearcats trailed only Pacific Lutheran University, which shot 589 (287-302).

The NWC Fall Classic is one of three tournaments used to determine the overall NWC champion. The Fall Classic is worth one-fourth of the overall title, with the NWC Spring Classic also counting for one-fourth. The NWC Tournament counts for one-half of the title. After the Fall Classic, Pacific Lutheran has 8 points toward the title, while Willamette has 7 points. George Fox is currently third with 6 points.

It is the second time this season that Jones has earned NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. He also received the honor after tying for sixth place at the Oregon Tech Invitational on Sept. 12-13. He completed the 54-hole event with a score of 223 (78-74-71).
