Sheldon Leads Willamette Spring Thaw with a First Round Score of 70

BEND, Ore. – Willamette University's Kenneth Sheldon (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) shot a two-under-par 70 to take the individual lead while helping the Bearcats to a tie for second place after the first round of the Willamette Spring Thaw Men's Golf Tournament played on Saturday, Apr. 14, at the Pronghorn Resort Golf Club.

Sheldon's score on the par 72, 6,571-yard course was two shots ahead of the 72 by George Fox University's Mason Koch and three strokes ahead of the 73 recorded by WU teammate Ben Graham (Fr., Renton, WA/Liberty HS). Spencer Hong (Sr., Bellevue, WA/Singapore American School) of Willamette was tied for 17th after shooting an 80, and Trent Jones (Jr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) carded a 92.

George Fox held the team lead with a 309 score, while Willamette and Whitworth University were deadlocked at 315. Linfield College was fourth at 318, followed by Whitman College at 319, Pacific Lutheran University at 322, Pacific University (Ore.) at 324, and Lewis & Clark College at 373.

The Spring Thaw concludes with the second round on Sunday, April 15.
