Jones is Named NWC Men's Golf Student-Ahtlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University senior Trent Jones (Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week after winning the individual title and leading the Bearcats to the team championship at the George Fox Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7. Jones won the tournament by earning a 36-hole score of 2-under-par 142.

Jones won the tournament by four strokes. He shot a 1-under-par 71 in each round, as he earned two of the four sub-par rounds in the tournament. He finished strong in Sunday's round with birdies on the 14th, 15th and 17th holes. He helped Willamette win the team title by nine strokes, as the Bearcats shot 586 (293-293).

All five of Willamette's golfers in the tournament placed in the top nine.Sam Hinton (Sr., Seaside, OR/Seaside HS) and Kenneth Sheldon (Sr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) tied each other for fourth place at 148. Hinton shot 75-73, while Sheldon carded 76-72. Andrew Kibbee (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS) placed eighth with a score of 151 (74-77), while Austin Davis (Fr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) was ninth at 152 (73-79).

The Bearcats will compete at the NWC Fall Classic this weekend on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14. The 36-hole tournament will be held at Michelbook Country Club near McMinnville, Oregon.
