BANKS, Ore. -- Willamette University registered a 36-hole team score of 582 to take first place as the Pacific Spring Invitational in men's golf concluded on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Quail Valley Golf Course. Andrew Kibbee (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Bothell HS) of Willamette was the medalist with a score of 144. All five Bearcats placed in the top six.
The Bearcats earned team score of 286 on Saturday and followed up with a score of 296 on Sunday. Willamette won the team title by 34 stroked over University of Puget Sound, which took second place at 616 (301-315). Pacific University was third at 645 (321-324), while Lewis & Clark College placed fourth at 679 (335-344).
Kibbee shot 2-over par for the tournament on the par 71 course. He won by two strokes over teammate Kenneth Sheldon (Sr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) and Mac Turner of Puget Sound. Sheldon and Turner both shot 146, with Sheldon carding 74-72 and Turner recording 69-77. Kibbee and Turner began the second round tied for first place.
Sam Hinton (Sr., Seaside, OR/Seaside HS) of Willamette was fourth with a score of 147. He shot a 73 in the first round and earned a 74 in the second round. Austin Davis (Fr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) placed fifth at 148 and Trent Jones (Sr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) was sixth at 149. Davis carded scores of 70 and 78. Jones shot 74 and 75.
Braden Ash from Pacific was seventh at 156 (76-80). Cole Albert of Puget Sound took eighth at 157 (81-76).
Willamette will return to action on March 16-17, when the Bearcats will host the Willamette Valley Cup at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Oregon. The tournament will feature 18 holes each day.
Big Moment of the Meet for Willamette
Andrew Kibbee took first place at the Pacific Spring Invitational
with a 36-hole total of 144. He shot a 69 in the first round and
a 75 in the second round. His 69 on Saturday put him in a tie
for the lead and was tied for the low round of the meet. It was
Kibbee's first individual collegiate title.
