SALEM, Ore. -- Trent Jones (Sr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week after wining the individual title at the Willamette Spring Thaw with a 36-hole score of 6-under-par 138 on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. Jones earned the title by one stroke, while helping Willamette win the team championship, also by one stroke.

Jones tied for the tournament's low score for 18 holes with a 4-under-par 68 in the first round. He shot a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. His total of 138 placed him just in front of teammate Austin Davis (Fr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) and Sam Stiles from Whitworth University, who tied for second place at 139.

Willamette claimed the team title with an overall score 569. The Bearcats carded a team score of 283 in the first round round and shot 286 in the second round. Willamette finished at 7-under-par. Whitworth took second place at 570 after shooting 279 and 291.

Jones has won two individual championshps this season. In the fall, he took first place at the George Fox Invitational. He leads the Bearcats with a 73.88 unadjusted stroke average and has placed in the top five at four of eight events. He has placed in the top 10 six times.

Willamette will be back in action at the Northwest Conference Tournanent on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 at the Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Washington. The NWC Tournament is worth one-half of the overall NWC Championship. The NWC Fall Classic and the NWC Spring Classic, each worth one-fourth of the title, have already been completed. With only the NWC Tournament remaining, Whitworth, Willamette and Pacific Lutheran have a reasonable chance to win the title after each placed in the top three at the first two tournaments.
