Weirth is 2nd, Davis is Tied for 3rd, as Bearcats Sit 3rd at Puget Sound Invite

DuPONT, Wash. -- Alex Weirth (Fy., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy) shot a 2-under par 70 and Austin Davis (So., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) recorded a 1-under par 71, as Willamette University earned a team score of 301 to hold third place in the team standings after the first round of the Puget Sound Invitational in men's golf, on Saturday, March 7 at The Home Course. Weirth was sitting in second place on the individual leaderboard, while Davis was tied for third.

Pacific Lutheran University was atop the team standings at 293, just one stroke in front of Bellevue Community College (Wash.), which shot 294. Willamette was third at 301, with the University of Puget Sound in fourth place at 303, Whitman College in fifth at 306, Linfield College in sixth at 308, Grays Harbor College (Wash.) in seventh at 310, and Olympic College (Wash.) in eighth at 318.

Scott Rohlinger of Bellevue CC topped the individual standings at the end of the first round with a 3-under-par 72. Weirth was one stoke back with his 70, while Davis's 71 was just two stroked behind Rohlinger. Davis shared third place with alex Nelson of Pacific Lutheran, who also shot a 71. Gunner Nielson of PLU was fifth with a 72, and Cole Albert from Puget Sound was sixth at 73. Five golfers were tied for seventh after shooting an 84. They were Jared Beals of Pacific Lutheran, Dallon Bennett and Ian MacKay from Bellevue CC, Colin Cavanaugh from Olympic College, and Carson Linville of Linfield.

In addition to Weirth and Davis, the Bearcats were represented by two more golfers. Carlos Cortes Dequidt (Fy., San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines HS) shot a 79 and Chikatsu Sugawara (So., Anjo, Japan/TIUA) shot an 81. The Puget Sound Invitational will conclude on Sunday, March 8 with the final 18 holes.
