Weirth Receives NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week Honor

SALEM, Ore. -- Alex Weirth (Fy., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy) of Willamette University has been named NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Puget Sound Invitational on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8. Weirth won the individual title with a 36-hole score of 5-under-par 139. The tournament was held at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington.

Weirth carded a 2-under-par 70 in the first round, and shot a 3-under-par 69 in the second round to win the championship by one stroke. His 69 on Sunday tied for the low round of the tournament.

Willamette tied for fourth place at the Puget Sound Invitational. The Bearcats shot 603 for 36 holes with a 301 in the first round and a 302 in the second round.

The first place finish by Weirth was his second individual victory of the 2019-20 season. He previously won medalist honors at the George Fox University Invitational on Oct. 5-6 at the Gearhart Golf Course in Gearhart, Oregon.

Up next for the Bearcats is the Willamette Valley Cup, which will be hosted by Willamette at Creekside Country Club in Salem, Oregon. Action will begin on Saturday, March 14 at 9:00 a.m. (PDT) and will conclude with the second round on Sunday, March 15. The second round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
