SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University golfer Alex Weirth (So., Port Orchard, WA/Crosspoint Academy) has been chosen First Team CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-District VIII on the Men's At-Large Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Weirth and other First Team Academic All-District selections are eligible to be chosen for the CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on August 4.

A total of 13 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large Team. Weirth was the only student-athlete chosen from the Northwest Conference.

CoSIDA District VIII includes colleges and universities in the western United States. Student-athletes nominated for the CoSIDA All-District At-Large Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.3 or higher (4.0 scale). Each nominated player was at their current college or university for at least one academic year. The At-Large Team includes athletes in sports that don't have a separate Academic All-District team, so nominees were involved in a wide range of sports such as swimming, tennis, lacrosse, volleyball, and wresting, in addition to golf.

Willamette competed in five golf tournaments this spring, including the NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic, and NWC Tournament. With points earned at the three NWC meets, the Bearcats won the overall NWC Championship. WU received the NWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, where the Bearcats tied for 11th place in the final standings. The National Tournament was held at the Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.

"I'm proud of how hard he works off the golf course, and this recognition shows what an outstanding student-athlete he is," Willamette Head Men's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said.

Weirth was chosen for the PING All-West Region Team in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He was named First Team All-NWC this season. He owns a career stroke average of 73.56. As a first-year college player in 2019-20, he recorded a career-low round of 69 twice on his way to a 72.15 stroke average for the season. He also won two individual tournament titles in 2019-20. While attending Crosspoint Academy in Washington, Weirth earned individual league titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He helped Crosspoint win the State Championship in 2019.
