Men's Soccer Drops Game at Whitworth, 2-0

SPOKANE, WASH. -- The Whitworth University men's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat the visiting Willamette University Bearcats, 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 30. Willamette held the Pirates scoreless for 65 minutes but were unable to hang on for a tie or a victory.

Whitworth attempted 10 shots in the first half compared to Willamette's four. Willamette goalkeeper Eben Hellekson (Sr., Honolulu, HI/The Univ. Laboratory School) made four saves in the first half to help hold the Pirates scoreless.

The Pirates continued to fire shots at Willamette. Whitworth had 13 second half shots. The Bearcats managed just three shots during the final half.

Kekoa Mountcastle broke the 0-0 tie in the 66th minute. Mountcastle scored from the middle of the box on a cross from the left side of the field. The goal was Mountcastle's fourth of the season. Cameron Bushey and Justin Meyer were credited with assists on the play.

Whitworth added another goal from Mountcastle in 87th minute to cement the victory. The insurance goal was assisted by Chris Stiblich.

Hellekson made five saves in goal for Willamette. The Bearcats played defensive soccer for most of the game as Whitworth attempted 16 more shots than Willamette (23-7).

The Bearcats will continue their Washington trip by taking on Whitman College on Sunday, Oct. 31 in Walla Walla, Wash., at 2:30 p.m.
