NWC Chooses Carballo as Men's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University men's soccer forward Lucas Carballo (Fy., Riverside, CA/Bloomington HS) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in wins by the Bearcats at Sparks Field on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24. Willamette downed the University of Puget Sound 3-1 on Saturday and defeated George Fox University 6-0 on Sunday.

Carballo paced Willamette with eight total shots, including three shots on goal, in the win over Puget Sound. He led WU's offensive explosion against GFU, as he scored the first two goals and later added two assists. Carballo's goals were scored at 10:41 and 15:42. His first goal was scored from 10 yards into the lower left corner of the net. His second goal was earned on a shot from 18 yards, also into the lower left corner. He took three shots during the game and all three shots were on target.

He recorded assists on a goal by Tiago Palhetas (Fy., M/F, Mississauga, ON, Canada/Our Lady of Mount Carmel) at 29:17 and on a goal by Drew Alexander (So., D, San Mateo, CA/Junipero Serra HS) at 41:50. In addition to his goals and assists versus the Bruins, Carballo was a key creator on offense throughout the weekend.

The Bearcats improved to 3-4 on the season, including 3-0 in the NWC. Willamette will remain at home to take on Whitworth University on Saturday, Sept. 30. Game time at Sparks Field is set for 2:30 p.m. PDT.
