Bearcats Fall to Lewis-Clark State in Men's Tennis Season Opener

SALEM, Ore. -- Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) swept Willamette University in men's tennis on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Courthouse Tennis Center, as the Warriors downed the Bearcats, 9-0. LCSC improved its record to 3-1 on the season. Willamette, playing its spring season opener, fell to 0-1.

The closest match in singles was at the #1 position, where Ignacio Salom of LCSC held off Willamette's Aaron Schechter (Fr., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set after the first two sets were split. Salom took the first set, 6-2, but Schechter responded by winning the second set, 6-4. Salom prevailed in the super tie-breaker, 10-2.

Lewis-Clark State opened the match by building a 3-0 lead in doubles. At #1 doubles, Salom and Quentin Wacquez slipped past Schechter and Samuel Wexman (Sr., Tiburon, CA/Tamiscal HS), 8-5.

In the #2 doubles match, Jonas Woldetsadik and Alexandre d'Aboville defeated Blake Brash (Sr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) and Colin Yamaguchi (Sr./Jr., Clackamas, OR/Clackamas HS), 8-3. Andres Bustani and Tony Chin of LCSC downed Derek Lund (So., Helena, MT/Capital HS) and Jesse Mackinney (So., Arcata, CA/Northcoast Prep and Performing Arts Academy), 8-2.

The Warriors won the #2 through #5 singles matches in straight sets. At #2 singles, Woldetsadik edged Brash in the first set, 6-3, before taking the second set, 6-0.

Willamette does not play again until Sunday, Feb. 21 at Pacific Lutheran University. The Northwest Conference match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. (PST).
