Linfield Downs Bearcats 9-0 in Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Match

SALEM, Ore. -- Linfield College defeated Willamette University 9-0 in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday, April 14 at the WU Tennis Courts. Linfield upped its record to 5-11 overall and to 2-5 in the NWC. Willamette ended its season at 2-10 overall, 1-7 in the NWC.

The Wildcats played well and won by strong margins in nearly every set. An exception was at #6 singles, where Eric Rutherford of Linfield barely outscored Willamette's David Liang (Fr., Beijing, China/Bellevue Christian School, Wash.) in the first set, 7-5. Rutherford won the second set, 6-1.

In the #1 doubles match, Linfield's team of Luis Rojas and Ben McNair moved past Aaron Schechter (Jr., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS) and Colin Fisher (So., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School) of Willamette, 8-1. At #1 singles, Nathan Saragoza from LC defeated Schechter, 6-1, 6-0.

Also winning for the Wildcats in singles were Rojas at #2, McNair at #3, Trent Prussing at #4 and Jacob Mangan at #5. Prussing and Rutherford from Linfield were victorious at #2 doubles, while Saragoza and J.C. Barcellos won #3 doubles.
