Pioneers, Ranked #29 in NCAA Division III, Defeat Bearcats, 9-0, in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark College, ranked #29 in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), downed Willamette University, 9-0, in a non-conference men's tennis match on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the L&C Tennis Dome. The Pioneers evened their overall record at 2-2, while Willamette fell to 0-4 (0-1 in the spring).

In doubles, Lewis & Clark's team of Raed Attia and Ramez Attia won the top match over Gene Perle-Jones (Jr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS) and Colin Fisher (Jr., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School) of WU, 8-2. Brendan Adams and Will McDermott of L&C took #2 doubles, 8-4, against Andrew Kabacy (Fr., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) and Charles Pezeshki (Fr., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS). At #3 doubles, Riley Vickers and Ryan Hayes defeated Luke Hiserman (So., Monterey, CA/Pacific Grove HS) and Ethan Frank (Jr., Lahaina, HI/Maui Preparatory Academy), 8-0.

The #1 singles match was won by Raed Attia. He moved past Kabacy, 6-1, in the first set, before prevailing in the second set by a much closer 7-5 margin. At #2 singles, Adams outlasted Fisher in the first set, 7-5, and then won the second set, 6-2. Other winners in singles for the Pioneers were Ramez Attia at #3, McDermott at #4, Vickers at #5, and Hays at #6.

Willamette will play its next two matches in Southern California in about two weeks. On Friday, March 8, the Bearcats will face Biola University in Los Angeles at 10 a.m. (PST). On Sunday, March 10, Willamette will compete against California Lutheran University, in a neutral site match in Palm Springs, starting at 10 a.m. (PDT).
