Hiserman and Andersen Win Flight 2 Doubles on First Day of Logger Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. -- Luke Hiserman (So., Monterey, CA/Pacific Grove HS) and Thomas Andersen (Fy., Salem, OR/South Salem HS) of Willamette University won the Flight 2 doubles title during the first day of the Logger Invitational in men's tennis on Saturday, Sept. 14. In singles competition on Saturday, Andrew Kabacy (So., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette advanced to the Flight 1 final, while Jordan Megiveron (Fy., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS) reached the Flight 2 final for the Bearcats. Action was set to continue on Sunday,

Flight 2 in doubles featured three teams in round-robin play. Hiserman and Andersen opened Saturday by defeating Wangen and Larson of Pacific Lutheran University, 8-3. Later, Hisrman and Andersen outlasted Aiden Velasco and Graham Byron, 8-6, for a 2-0 record and the championship of the flight. In the other Flight 2 doubles match, Velasco and Byron of Puget Sound downed Wangen and Larson of PLU, 8-2.

At Flight 1 singles, Kabacy won his opening match over Hampus Pers Eliasson of PLU, 8-4. Kabacy then downed Marcus Lee of PLU, 8-1, to reach the final. Also in Flight 1 action, Willamette's Colin Fisher (Sr., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School) fell to Garger of Puget Sound in a close battle, 8-7, but rebounded in the consolation bracket by rolling past Hyun of Puget Sound, 8-0. Fisher was set to play in the third place match on Sunday.

Hiserman fell in the first round of Flight 2 singles, as Lowell Hutton of the Loggers escaped with an 8-6 win. Hiserman edged out Brandon Near of PLU in the consolation bracket, 8-7, to reach the third place match. Andersen lost to Jake Kim from Pacific Lutheran in the first round, but advanced with a bye into the third place match against Hiserman.

Competing for Willamette in Flight 3 singles were Jordan Megiveron (Fy., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS) and Andrew Kropp (Fy, Bend, OR/Summit HS). Megiveron downed Wangen from PLU, 8-4, in the first round and then received a bye that sent him into the final on Sunday. Graham Byron of Puget Sound moved past Kropp in the first round, 8-2. Kropp and Wangen each received a bye into the third place match, which Kropp won, 8-3.

The Flight 1 doubles bracket featured eight teams. In first round action. Gene Perle-Jones (Sr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS) and Fisher of Willamette downed Jake Kim and Alex Richter from Pacific Lutheran, 8-1. Also in the first round, Paul Wallace and Garger of Puget Sound slipped past Megiveron and Kropp of Willamette, 8-6, while Eliasson and Near of PLU narrowly defeated Kabacy and Quentin Nigbur (Fy., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) of WU, 8-7.

In the second round of Flight 1 doubles, Lee and Michael Campbell of PLU advanced into the championship match by defeating Perle-Jones and Fisher, 8-4. Campbell and Lee went on to win the title over Wallace and Garger, 8-4. On the consolation side of the bracket, Hutton and Del Barco of the Loggers downed Megiveron and Kropp of WU, 8-6. Kabacy and Nigbur for the Bearcats, as well as Kim and Richter for the Lutes, reached the third place match, with Kabacy and Nigbur prevailing, 8-4.
