Kabacy Outlasts Adams at #1 Singles, but Lewis & Clark Defeats Bearcats, 8-1

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Willamette University's Andrew Kabacy (So., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) edged out Brendan Adams of Lewis & Clark College in straight sets at #1 singles, but the Pioneers won the remaining matches for an 8-1 win over the Bearcats in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the L&C Tennis Dome. It was the season opener for both teams, with Lewis & Clark moving to 1-0 and Willamette falling to 0-1.

Kabacy won the first set against Adams, 7-5 and took the second set, 6-3. Kabacy and doubles partner Quentin Nigbur (Fy., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) played a strong match at #1 doubles, before Ramez Attia and Shane Lynette held off the Willamette duo, 8-6.

L&C also won #2 doubles and #3 doubles. In the #2 match, Adams and Will McDermott were victorious. At #3 doubles, Kristian Peev and Riley Vickers gained the win.

The Pioneers did not lose a set while prevailing in the matches from #2 singles down to #6 singles. Lynette triumphed at #2 singles over Gene Perle-Jones (Sr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS) of Willamette, 6-2, 6-2. Ryan Hayes won #6 singles against Jordan Megiveron (Fy., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS), 6-2, 6-2. Other winners for L&C in singles were Peev at #3, McDermott at #4 and Vickers at #5.

Willamette has completed the fall portion of its schedule. The Bearcats will return to action during the spring semester.
