Bearcats Sweep Treasure Valley in Men's Tennis Exhibition Match, 9-0

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University won every singles and doubles match to shut out Treasure Valley Community College (Ore.) in men's tennis, 9-0, in an exhibition match at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Sunday, March 1. Andrew Kabacy (So., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) led the way with a straight-set victory at #1 singles, while Colin Fisher (Sr., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School) and Gene Perle-Jones (Sr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS) won #1 doubles. The overall match does not change Willamette's record because the NCAA does not count results against two-year colleges.

Kabacy won #1 singles against Matthew Bake of Treasure Valley CC, 6-1, 6-2. Fisher registered a swift win for the Bearcats at #2 singles, as he nearly took every game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Cardale Herzog. At #3 singles Perle-Jones won the first set 6-2, before holding off Hayden Cissna in the second set 6-4. In the #4 singles match, Quentin Nigbur (Fy., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) of WU won a close first set on his way to a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Kenneth Silva.

The #5 singles match went to Willamette's Luke Hiserman (Jr., Monterey, CA/Pacific Grove HS), who rolled past Marco Ramirez, 6-1, 6-1. At #6 singles, Andrew Kropp (Fy, Bend, OR/Summit HS) breezed past Humberto Villagomez iof TVCC, 6-0, 6-0.

Fisher and Perle-Jones grabbed their #1 doubles win, 8-4, versus Bake and Herzog. The #2 doubles match was claimed by Kabacy and Nidbur over Cissna and Silva, 8-2. Hiserman and Kropp won #3 doubles, 8-3, against Ramirez and Villagomez.

Willamette will be back at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club on Tuesday, March 3 to battle Otterbein University (Ohio). Match time is slated for 5 p.m. (PST).
