WU Drops match to Linfield, 8-1, but Kabacy Wins #1 Singles for Bearcats

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette University won #1 singles as the Bearcats lost to Linfield University, 8-1, on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Linfield Tennis Center. In order to speed up play since the match was indoors and the Willamette women's tennis team also was taking on the Wildcats, the singles matches lasted one 8-game pro-set, while the doubles matches featured a single set played to six wins.Other

Kabacy downed Linfield's Rogue Stone in the top singles competition by a comfortable margin of 8-3. Brooks Lerfald won for the Wildcats at #2 singles by a similar 8-3 score, as he defeated WU's Velibor Mladenovic (Fy., Belgrade, Serbia). Other singles matches decided by 8-3 results were won by Alexander Rosenquist of Linfield against Andrew Kropp (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette at #4 singles, and by Nick Gabelman for the Wildcats against Trey Allen (So., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS) at #5 singles.

In the #3 singles match, Seth Lee of Linfield prevailed against Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS), 8-2. At #6 singles, Matous Young of LU outlasted Andre Lief (So., Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS) of Willamette, 8-4.

Stone and Lee paired up for the Wildcats at #1 doubles and defeated Kabacy and Nigbur, 6-2. Linfield won close matches at #2 doubles and #3 doubles. Lerfald and Young held off Kropp and Mladenovic for a 7-5 victory in the #2 match, while Rosenquist and Gabelman took the #3 match, 6-3, versus Lief and Luca Casano (Fy., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School).

Willamette will compete against the Oregon State Club team on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Corvallis, Oregon. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (PST).
