Barry and Romero Named All-West Region for WU Softball
May 14, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- Two members of the Willamette University softball team were recognized as 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-West Region. Sophomore Jessica Barry (OF, Cupertino, CA/Monte Vista HS) was named to the Second Team and Mica Romero (So., SS, Woodland, CA/Woodland Christian HS) earned Third Team honors. -

Willamette Completes Weekend Sweep Over Whitworth
April 25, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and defeat the visiting Whitworth University Pirates in game one, 5-4, in Northwest Conference action on Sunday, April 25. The Bearcats won the second game of the day, 6-2, to complete the four-game weekend sweep over the Pirates.

Willamette Takes Two From Whitworth
April 24, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team defeated the visiting Whitworth University Pirates, 11-10 and 4-1 in a pair of Northwest Conference games on Saturday, April 24. Willamette moved its season record to 25-11 overall, while improving to 17-7 in the NWC. Whitworth fell to 18-16 overall and to 12-14 in the NWC.

April 18, 2010MCMINNVILLE, ORE. -- The Linfield College Wildcats used a five-run fifth inning to defeat visiting Willamette University, 6-2 in game one of a Northwest Conference doubleheader. Linfield won the second game, 8-0 in five innings. The games paired two nationally ranked teams, as Linfield is ranked #18 and Willamette is #25 in the latest NCAA Division III Poll.

April 11, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team used late runs in both games to capture two victories over visiting George Fox University on Sunday, April 11. Willamette broke a 6-6 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-6 win in the first game of the Northwest Conference doubleheader. In the second game, WU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to break another tie and win, 3-2.

April 08, 2010PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University held a 3-1 lead over Lewis & Clark College when the second game of their Northwest Conference doubleheader was suspended in the second inning on Sunday, April 28. When play resumed on Thursday, April 8, the Bearcats pulled away from the Pioneers for a 13-4 victory at the Huston Sports Complex. The game ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

Willamette will reschedule the games against Pacific Lutheran University at a date still to be determined. March 28, 2010PORTLAND, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team used explosive offense to defeat Lewis & Clark College, 15-1 on Sunday, March 28 in Northwest Conference action. WU earned the win on the run rule in five innings. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be finished at a date to be determined later. WU was leading 3-1 in the top of the second inning when the game was postponed.

CCTV is a local cable television company that has a history of providing quality athletic broadcasts of college and high school events in the Salem area.

Willamette Announces Baseball and Softball Webcast Schedule
March 18, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has announced the schedule of webcasts for baseball and softball games during the 2010 season. Full Access Sports will produce the Live Audio Webcasts and will supply the on-air announcers for each event. Webcasts will be provided for three doubleheaders and one single game in baseball, plus four doubleheaders in softball.

The Bearcats are currently 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference. WU just returned from the Leadoff Classic in Panama City, Fla. Willamette went 4-2 at the prestigious tournament.

March 14, 2010PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- Willamette University lost to Cortland State (N.Y.) in the semifinal round of the Silver Bracket, 9-1, on the run rule in five innings, but edged out the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 2-1, in the third place game, during the final day of the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Sunday, March 14. WU went 4-2 at the tournament, as the Bearcats moved to 11-3 on the season.

March 13, 2010PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- The Willamette University softball team defeated Ramapo College, 7-3 on Saturday, March 13 at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic. The Bearcats are 1-0 in the silver bracket play. With the win, WU is now 3-1 at the Leadoff Classic after playing four opponents that qualified for the regionals in last year's NCAA DIII National Championship.

Willamette Falls to #2-Ranked Texas-Tyler, 5-2
March 13, 2010PANAMA CITY, FLA. -- The University of Texas at Tyler, ranked #2 in NCAA Division III, used one big inning to defeat Willamette University, 5-2, in the final game of pool play for both teams at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Saturday, March 13. UT-Tyler remained undefeated at 9-0, 3-0 in the tournament, while Willamette moved to 9-2 overall, 2-1 in the tournament.
