Watilo Selected as NWC Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior Alex Watilo (RHP, Newcastle, CA/Del Oro HS) has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 1. Watilo pitched 4 1/3 innings in Willamette's 5-inning, run-rule victory over the University of Puget Sound on Sunday.

The win over Puget Sound came in the only game played by the Bearcats during the week, as five games were canceled due to the weather.

Watilo struck out four batters and allowed just one hit and no runs in the win over Puget Sound. She walked one batter and limited the Loggers to a .071 batting average. She helped Willamette achieved a 10-0 victory, as the Bearcats improved to 14-8 overall, 13-4 in the NWC. Watilo upped her pitching record to 10-3 on the season.

For the year, Watilo has registered 58 strikeouts in 74 innings. She has held opposing hitters to a .223 batting average.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 6 with a doubleheader against Whitworth University to begin a four-game NWC series. Friday's first game will get underway at 12 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats and the Pirates will complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 starting at 12 p.m.

With the win over Puget Sound, Alex Watilo improved to 10-3 on the season.
