Martin Named NWC Softball Hitter Student-Athlete of the Week

Hits .727 in Four Games with Three Home Runs

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University third baseman Theresa Martin (Fr., Modesto, CA/Johansen HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Softball Hitter Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts as the Bearcats went 4-0 in games played on Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18.

Willamette defeated Lewis & Clark College 10-0 and 7-1 on Saturday. The Bearcats rolled past Pacific University 9-1 and 11-0 on Sunday. Three of the four games were ended on the run rule in five innings.

Martin batted .727 (8 of 11) during the week with three home runs and one double. She smacked a three-run homer in the first game against Pacific and added a grand slam in the second game with the Boxers. Martin scored seven runs in the four games, while earning nine RBIs.

She achieved at least on hit and one run in each game, while producing two or more RBIs in three of the games. For the week, she earned a 1.636 slugging percentage and a .769 on-base percentage. On defense, she accumulated three putouts and 10 assists with no errors.

Willamette will host Concordia University (Ore.) in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 27. First pitch at the WU Softball Field is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
