Softball Doubleheader at Linfield is Postponed due to Rain

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The scheduled doubleheader in softball between Willamette University and Linfield College on Sunday, March 6 has been postponed due to the weather and wet grounds. Willamette and Linfield were set to play two Northwest Conference games at Del Smith Stadium. The two teams will make up the games in a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, April 6.

Willamette opened its weekend by splitting a doubleheader against the Wildcats on Saturday. The Bearcats lost the first game, 3-2 after leading into the seventh inning. WU took the second game 8-5 to boost its record to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the NWC.

Kathryn Moore (So., 3B, Reno, NV/ Robert McQueen HS) went 5 for 7 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a double on Saturday. For the season, she leads the Bearcats with a .556 (10 of 18) batting average and is second on the team with six RBIs.

Sophomore outfielder Danielle Saunders (Salem, OR/McNary HS) went 2 for 3 in the second game against Linfield with an RBI and a run. On the year, she is batting .500 (9 of 18) and leads the team with seven runs scored and seven RBIs.

Pitcher Jade Smith (Jr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) has been stellar in the circle for Willamette so far this season earning a 3-1 record with just a 1.29 earned run average over 21 2/3 innings pitched.

Up next for the Bearcats is a four-game series against Whitworth University, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 12 at the WU Softball Field. The teams will play a second doubleheader on Sunday, March 13. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m. each day.
