Lady Yotes Improve to 9-2 on the Season with 8-0 Win over Willamette

CALDWELL, Idaho -- Colette Robert from the College of Idaho limited Willamette University to four hits, as she led the Lady Yotes to an 8-0 victory over the Bearcats on the run rule in six innings, Sunday, Feb. 18 at Symms Field. The Lady Yotes upped their record to 9-2 overall, while Willamette fell to 0-3 on the season.

College of Idaho scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on three runs in the third to take charge with a 6-0 lead. The Lady Yotes added one run in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth. Kylie Smith and Martha Tooley each went 2 of 2 for C of I. Smith scored two runs, while Tooley registered one run and two RBIs. Jordan Maddox was 1 for 1 with a two-RBI triple and a run scored.

Four Bearcats each contributed one hit for Willamette. Players with a hit were Emily Bishop (Jr., OF, Maple Valley, WA/Tahoma HS/Pierce College), Vanessa Almaraz (So., OF, Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley HS), Maya Shipway (So., 1B, Bothell, WA/The Bear Creek School), and Breianna Mcleod (Fr., UT, Kailua Kona, HI/West Hawaii Explorations Academy).

Bishop earned her hit for the Bearcats as the first batter of the game. One out later, she moved to second on a groundout by Jocelyn Glasgo (So., P/OF, Rochester, WA/Tumwater HS). Alamaraz lined out to second base to end the threat.

In the bottom of the first, Courtney Ellis was hit by a pitch and Smith singled through the infield to place runners at first and second. Jordan Maddox followed with her tripple to bring home both runners. Jordan Maddox scored on a ground out by Marissa Maddox.

The Lady Yotes sent just four batters to the plate in the second inning, but scored three times in the third. The runs crossed the plate on an RBI single by Lacie Miller, a one-run double by Trystin Crofts, and an RBI single by Delaney Atkins.

Almaraz and Shipway registered back-to-back singles for Willamette with two out sin the top of the fourth inning. Both runners were left on base when Robert forced Sofia Magnani (So., P, Belmont, CA/Notre Dame HS) to ground out to second base.

C of I received a run-scoring single from Tooley in the bottom of the fourth and again in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Yotes achieved a total of 12 hits during the game.

Willamette is set to play its first home games of the season on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25 against Northwest Conference rival Pacific University. The teams will play a doubleheader each day at the WU Softball Field starting at 12 p.m. (PST).
