PORTLAND, Ore. -- Jocelyn Glasgo (Jr., P, Rochester, WA/Tumwater HS) blasted a grand slam home run to center field in the fourth inning to give Willamette University a 5-0 lead in the first game of a doubleheader at Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, March 17. The Pioneers attempted a rally, but were stopped just short of tying the game, as the Bearcats won 5-4. Willamette added a 5-2 win in the second game.

Willamette improved to 2-15 overall and to 2-10 in the Northwest Conference. Lewis & Clark fell to 5-11, including 3-9 in the NWC.

Glasgo Hits Grand Slam and Pitches Six Innings in First Game

In addition to supplying the big hit in the first game, Glasgo also pitched the opening six innings to earn the win. She held L&C to just three hits until the sixth, when the Pioneers scored three runs on three hits, including a leadoff homer by Olivia Brackin.

Morgan Penn (Jr., P/1B, Beaverton, OR/Southridge HS) pitched the seventh inning for Willamette and earned her first save of the season. Lewis & Clark added one run during the inning on an RBI triple by Frankie Warden with two outs to cut the lead to 5-4. Warden was left stranded when Ana Zimmerman lined out to end the game.

Earlier, Willamette moved in front 1-0 in the the third inning. Breianna Mcleod (So., OF, Kailua Kona, HI/West Hawaii Explorations Acad.) and Glasgo hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Mcleod was thrown out on a double steal, as Glasbo advanced to second. Payten Healy (Fr., SS, Crescent City, CA/Del Norte HS) drove in Glasgo with a double to right center.

In the fourth inning, Glasgo's grand slam was the fourth consecutive hit for the Bearcats.

With one out, Cassie Cosler (Fr., 1B, Albany, OR/West Albany HS) doubled near the left field line. Danielle Koontz (So., OF, Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista HS) pinch-ran for Cosler, and then Sailor Mickey (Fr., 2B, Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge HS) singled to left, sending Koontz to third. The bases were loaded after Mickey stole second and Mcleod hit an infield single toward third. Glasgo's homer cleared the bases.

Mcleod was 3 of 4 with a run scored for Willamette in the opener. Glasgo went 2 of 4 with her homer, two runs and four RBIs. Cosler went 2 of 3 and Kelsey Wong (Fr., UT, Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) was 2 of 4.

Hillmick Homers and Earns Pitching Win in Second Game

Bailey Hillmick (So., DP/UT, Athena, OR/Weston-McEwen HS) belted a two-run homer for the Bearcats in the first inning of the second game. It was Hillmick's fourth home run of the season and it helped WU grab a 3-0 lead before L&C batted. When the Pioneers did bat, Hillmick pitched for the Bearcats and limited L&C to six hits and two runs -- one earned -- over five innings.

Lewis & Clark scored both of its runs in the fifth to pull within 3-2. Emily Drevdahl hit a solo homer to right field to start the frame. Lily Moffitt was hit by a pitch, went to second on a ground out, and went to third when Warden reached base on an error. During an attempted double-steal, Moffitt was thrown out at the plate. Warden moved to second on the play and scored on a double by Sydney Cross.

Willamette tacked on one insurance run in the sixth inning and added one more run in the seventh. In the sixth, Vanessa Almaraz (Jr., OF, Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley HS) walked to open the stanza and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Amber Griffith (Fr., C, Brush Prairie, WA/Hockinson HS). In the seventh, Healy doubled to center field after Glasgo lined out to left. With two outs, Almaraz hit an infield single and advanced to second on an error, while Healy scored an unearned run.

Penn earned her second save of the day by holding L&C scoreless and hitless over the final two innings. She faced just six batters.
