Six Willamette Softball Players are Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

SALEM, Ore. -- Six members of last year's Willamette University softball team have been chosen Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2019 season. A total of 6,143 softball players competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college level received Scholar-Athlete honors, led by 1,928 players from Willamette and other NCAA Division III colleges and universities. Athletes qualified for the award by achieving a 3.5 or higher grade point average during the 2018-19 academic year.

Willamette softball players earning NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition were Kiki Fierstos (Fy., 2B, Redmond, OR/Redmond HS), Jewel Fleckenstein (Fr., UT, Wasilla, AK/Mat-Su Middle College School), Jocelyn Glasgo (Jr., P/DP, Rochester, WA/Tumwater HS), Olivia Scott (Jr., OF, San Francisco, CA/Lowell HS), Maya Shipway (Jr., 1B, Bothell, WA/The Bear Creek School), Kaitlyn Wells (So., C, Happy Valley, OR/Clackamas HS). Scott, Shipway and Wells all received Scholar-Athlete honors for the second year in a row.

NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes

Kiki Fierstos (Fy., 2B, Redmond, OR/Redmond HS) Kiki Fierstos (Fy., 2B) batted .243 last spring, while playing in 23 games with 15 starts for the Bearcats. She played mostly at second base. Fierstos hit one double and was 2 for 2 on stolen base attempts. Her defensive statistics included 22 putouts and 18 assists. She helped turn one double play.

Jewel Fleckenstein (Fy., UT, Wasilla, AK/Mat-Su Middle College School) Jewel Fleckenstein (Fy., UT) saw action in 13 games and made one start for Willamette during the 2019 season. She filled several rolls and provided the Bearcats with depth. She was particularly successful as a pinch-runner, as she scored eight runs and went 2 for 2 on stolen bases. She also received two walks.

Jocelyn Glasgo (Jr., P/DP, Rochester, WA/Tumwater HS) Jocelyn Glasgo (Jr., P/DP) was named Honorable Mention All-NWC as a utility player in 2019, after earning First Team All-NWC in 2018 and was Second Team All-NWC in 2017. This past season, she was a pitcher and an outfielder for the Bearcats. She hit .315 for Willamette with a team-high 27 runs scored to go along with 18 RBIs. She ranked first for WU with five home runs, and also connected for two triples and six doubles. She walked 16 times and was hit by 14 pitches. She registered a .596 slugging percentage and a .487 on-base percentage. She pitched 86 2/3 innings and struck out 48 players. Glasgo owns a .358 career batting average on offense and has earned 119 strikeouts on defense.

Olivia Scott (Jr., OF, San Francisco, CA/Lowell HS) Olivia Scott (Jr., OF) moved from catcher to the outfield in 2019 and competed in 13 games with four starts. She scored two runs, was hit by a pitch and went 1 for 2 on stolen bases. She recorded five putouts on defense. Scott has played in 51 career games with 41 starts. She went 8 for 11 on stolen bases in 2018 and is 13 for 17 on career stolen bases.

Maya Shipway (Jr., 1B, Bothell, WA/The Bear Creek School) Maya Shipway (Jr., 1B) contributed to the Bearcats in 13 games with three starts. She hit .333 at the plate with 5 hits in 15 at bats. She belted one double and one home run to go with four runs scored and four RBIs. On defense, she earned 11 putouts with no errors. She recorded 17 hits, 13 runs and 14 RBIs as a sophomore in 2018.

Kaitlyn Wells (So., C, Happy Valley, OR/Clackamas HS) Kaitlyn Wells (So., C) played in seven games with two starts in 2019. She walked two times. Wells provided five putouts and no errors on defense. She hit .267 as a first-year player in 2018.
