Guffey is Selected as the NWC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week

Registers Strong Swims at the CAT Open

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman swimmer Alex Guffey (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Corvallis Aquatic Team (CAT) Open on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1.

Guffey placed in the top 13 in four events and helped Willamette earn top 4 finishes in both relays.

He tied for fourth out of 81 swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.38 seconds and was 10th in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.64 seconds. He finished 13th in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. His time in the 200 free was 1:50.19 and he registered a time of 4:58.89 in the 500-free.

Guffey swam the anchor leg on both relays. His work on the relays helped Willamette take third place in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:46.19 and finish fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.64.

Willamette has completed the fall semester portion of its schedule. The Bearcats will hold their Winter Training sessions in San Diego, Calif., from Jan. 3 through Jan. 10. While in Southern California, the Bearcats will compete against Soka University in Aliso Viejo on Jan. 5.

Alex Guffey placed 4th in the 100 free, was 10th in the 50 free, and took 13th in both the 200 free and 500 free at the CAT Open.
