Bearcats to Host Northwest Conference Relays in Swimming

Action Starts at the WU Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University will host the Northwest Conference Relays in men's and women's swimming on Friday, Oct. 31 at the WU Natatorium. The competition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. (PDT).

The NWC Relays will involve a series of women's relay events, men's relay events and coed relays. Each college or university is allowed on scoring relay per event. All other relay teams will be exhibition. The exhibition heats will be held prior to each scoring event.

Each event will be scored on a 7-5-4-3-2-1 system. The final standings will be combined total for each team of all points scored in women's, men's and coed events.

The NWC Relays will begin the 2014-15 season for the Bearcats. Men's team captains this year are Zander Le Bel (Sr., Dallas, TX/Richardson HS) and Andrew Lum (Jr., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School). Women's team captains are Leah Freeborn (Jr., Federal Way, WA/Todd Beamer HS) and Malia Santos (Jr., Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe HS).

Willamette's swimming teams will continue the opening weekend at the NWC Sprint Pentathlon on Saturday, Nov. 1. The meet will be hosted by Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., with the first event slated to get underway at 11 a.m. (PDT). Swimmers at the pentathlon will be able to compete in the 100-yard individual medley as well as 50-yard races in all four strokes.
