Mariman and Clemmer Place Fourth in Pole Vault Events
EUGENE, ORE. -- Rebekah Daniel (So., Silverdale, WA/Central Kitsap HS) from Willamette took second place and teammate Elisa Ahern (Fr., Lake Forest, WA/Shorecrest HS) finished third, as the Bearcats claimed two of the top three spots in the women's triple jump at the Titan Twilight track and field meet at Lane Community College on Friday, April 27. The Bearcats sent a select group of field event athletes to compete at the meet.
Daniel achieved a top distance of 35' 10.50" in the triple jump to finish in front of all but one of the other nine competitors. Ahern was third in the triple jump with a combined distance of 35' 7.25". Daniel established a new personal record, surpassing her previous personal best of 34' 11" at the 2011 Willamette Opener.
Ashley Potter from Western Oregon University won the event with a school record jump of 40' 1.50". Potter broke the previous Western Oregon record of 39' 8.75", which she set in 2010.
In the women's pole vault, Willamette sophomore Katie Mariman (Sherwood, OR/Sherwood HS) finished in fourth place after successfully vaulting a height of 10' 1.50". Catherine Street of Linfield College won the pole vault with a top height of 13' 1".
Spencer Clemmer (Sr., Sacramento, CA/Elk Grove HS) of Willamette cleared 13' 9.75" to tie for fourth place in the men's pole vault. David Formolo from Lane Community College claimed first place with a top vault of 15' 9.25".
Willamette will compete at the Linfield Twilight on Friday, May 4. Action is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (PDT) at Maxwell Field.
