Lehndorff in Shot Put, Turpen in Hammer Throw, Lead Willamette at Saints Open

GRESHAM, Ore. -- Hans Lehndorff (Sr., Boulder, CO/Boulder HS) in the men's shot put and Angie Turpen (Jr., Alsea, OR/Alsea HS) in the women's hammer throw each set a personal record to lead the Willamette University track and field teams at the Saints Open, hosted by Mount Hood Community College on Saturday, March 12.

Lehndorff placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47' 5". He improved by just over 10 inches from his previous best of 46' 6.75" set a week ago at the Willamette Opener. Robert Watson of Concordia University (Ore.) won Saturday's competition with a toss of 51' 3.75".

Turpen matched her previous top distance in the hammer throw of 136' 6", but set a new personal record by improving from 41.61 meters to 41.62 meters. The metric mark is the official distance. Turpen's throw of 41.61 was at the 2015 Linfield Jenn Boyman Memorial Invitational.

On Saturday, Turpen finished behind two unattached competitors. McKenzie Warren won the hammer throw at 159' 3". Jessica Mattos placed second at 153' 3".

Hazel Carr (Fr., Seattle, WA/The Northwest School) placed second in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:00.84. The winner was Sierra Manzer from Northwest Nazarene University, who was timed at 4:57.84. Emily Evans (Fr., Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS) of Willamette took fifth place at 5:04.64.

In the men's 1,500-meter run, Jacob Shafi (Sr., Pleasanton, CA/Amador Valley HS) took fourth place and Jack Kobylka (So., Napa, CA/Vintage HS) placed sixth. Shafi's time was 4:05.08, while Kobylka was timed at a personal record of 4:08.63.

Maura Forbush (Jr., Hollister, CA/San Benito HS) was fifth in the women's 400-meter dash. She completed the race in 1:00.15. Jai'lyn Merriweather, competing unattached, won the 400 in 59.54 seconds.

Jack Wellman (So., Alameda, CA/Alameda HS) achieved sixth place in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.67 seconds.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Keith Carlson (Fr., Bainbridge Island, WA//Bainbridge HS) competed for the first time at the collegiate level and earned a time of 10:26.99 while taking sixth place. Scott Davis from the Oregon Running Club won the race in 10:01.26.

Teneah Rushen (So., Portland, OR/Franklin HS) and Carmela Roberts (Sr., Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz HS) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the women's 100-meter dash. Rushen earned a time of 13.33. Roberts reached the finish line in 13.39 seconds.

D'Angelo Guiton (So., Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd HS) took seventh in the men's 100-meter dash. His time was 11.65 seconds.
